About Cara K. Griffin

I’m a yoga educator and movement practitioner, and the founder of Free the Pelvis — a functional movement method centered on the pelvis as the body’s primary organizer for strength and movement.

My teaching is rooted in Yoga…

…and is informed by a wide range of movement disciplines. I draw from the Krishnamacharya lineage and continue to study with my teachers, while working across functional movement, biomechanics, and nervous-system science.

I focus on helping people understand how movement works — and how to apply that understanding across bodies, stages of life, and real-world demands.:

Over time, one truth became unavoidable: the pelvis is not a secondary concern in movement. It is the structure through which strength is organized, balance is negotiated, and force is transmitted through the body.

Free the Pelvis emerged from this realization — as a way of teaching movement that starts where coordination actually lives.

I’m known for precise cueing, layered sequencing, and an attentive, hands-on approach that meets people where they are. I care deeply about clarity, efficiency, and helping movement make sense.

I also like to laugh. Learning works better that way.

I teach in-person and online classes, work one-on-one with students, lead 200-hour and 300-hour teacher training programs, and offer prenatal movement and birth preparation. I teach locally on Maui, work online with students around the world, and travel to teach workshops and intensives.

Alongside my teaching practice, I’m also a visual artist. My art and movement work share the same foundation: attention, embodiment, and staying in relationship with what’s real.
